| 10/25/06 Wednesday 16 3rd NavMed
Daily Journal: Today we had our 3rd NavMed scenario. We had to go down below the dam on the south lake and build a platform forsaving a family from the rising flood waters. we also had to erect a "framework" to support a tarp roof. On the way Back Recruit Whitteberry was appointed "victim" and then we were told that we had to build a stretcher and get him back to the flagfield without using any of the materials from the platform we had built. To say the least things went VERY bad and slow. We did not get back untill right around lightsout. It didn't help that we were down a man either.
Wisdom Search: Capt Pendergagst - Godliness - 2 Peter 1:5 - Godliness is the pursuit of God-likeness. Godliness requires action. 1 Timothy 3:16 All of Chapter 3 is a general outline of a Godly man. Vigilant, sober, behave properly, hospitable, a natural teacher, not a drinker, not greedy, patient, not a brawler, not coveteous, having control of his home (not with an iron hand, but with a good testimony) He needs to teach his children to be "grave"' Mature in the faith, so as to help resist stumbling. Having a "good report" of the world. Of course they are not going to agree, they will think your beliefs foolish, but they will reckognize and observe honesty and God's spirit in you.
Personal Observations: My Knees are both in a lot of pain this morning, I iced the right knee last night but it is still swollen. I got another package from home last night with trail mix and some wassabi peas. Yesterday we got along much better as a squad on the NavMed but we still only scored a 51. Monday we had scored a 31. The only thing (well not the ONLY one) keeping me going here is the fact that there are only 16 days left. I am really missing my family right now. I am really getting frustrated at the way everyone treats the squadroom. Every night it gets completely trashed. Even though they know that in the morning they will only have 5 minutes to clean everything up.

| 10/20/06 Friday 21 Pushups
Daily Journal: Well as near as I can tell it was somewhere around midnight when it came. We were all expecting it, but no one was sure just when it would come. Multiday!! We got up, got ready, had flag, inspection (Pack), and a small snack. Then we were off. We hiked out the rest of the night. and when a little light was just starting to show on the horizon, we stopped up by the power lines for breakfast. then began the hard part. finally the 12 hr was over we were given lunch and sent to bed. up again for pack inspection, squad time, dinner, flag and mailcall, then back to bed.
Wisdom Search: Wow the many lessons to be learned this day. Patience, temperance, meekness, brotherlikindness, longsuffering, gentilness. Gods mercy and faithfulness is far beyond what this wretched sinner deserves My sufferings are nowhere near that of Jo. Yet he stood firm for the righteousness of God. I am having a really hard time on some parts of the hikes when everything seems to be going wrong, my feet are infected and swollen and my pride is starting to feel sorry for itself. Oh God, please teach me to just cast myself upon you and rest myself on thee. Great is thy faithfulness.
Personal Observations: Well After today's hike things have been interesting. We were all gathered into the living room where we were stretched out to try and prevent our muscles from locking up. All during the hike I had been having trouble with my right hip-flexor and during the stretch it seemed to pop realy bad. I've never had a muscle pop before so I dont know what all that means but I dont think its a good thing God is amazing though. I know beyond any doubt that I never would have made it had I not been praying the entire way. Things got frustrating at times but overall it went better than I expected

March 2008
Dear Friend,
What
is the worth of a life? What drives our hearts to reach out to families
who suffer the anguish of a missing child? Many of us have experienced
the initial racing of the heart when we first discovered that one of
our children was not at our side—missing! But, most of us rejoiced in
that cherished moment when the child was quickly found and returned
safe in the mother's/father's arms.
For
the International ALERT Academy (IAA), one of our purposes for training
our men and women for Search and Rescue (SAR) was initially instituted
by our Heavenly Father in the garden when He searched out and rescued
us from the penalty of sin. He did this so that we could have "life,
and that they (we) might have it more abundantly" (John 10:10). Another
purpose is set forth by the National Association of Search and Rescue
(NASAR) and is put simply, "So that others may live."
Early morning of March 20, we received a call from a sheriff asking us
to join in a search for a missing girl—an opportunity for us to spring
into action "so that others may live." An 11-year-old girl with autism
had wandered away from her back yard around 8:30 the evening before.
Local searchers and family members combed the area by foot and ATV's
throughout the night. We received a call around 4:00 a.m. asking for
assistance and responded with our searchers in the field by daylight.
ALERT teams covered the area around the home and began spreading out to
the wooded areas with compassionate resolve of hopefully bringing good
news to the hearts of the waiting family and friends.
The
ALERT men searched for about one hour before finding the young girl in
a wooded area near a creek. She was shivering from being wet and cold,
but alive and well. I have never experienced what that family went
through in those 12 hours of anguish and terror, but I know that there
was great relief and rejoicing when she was found. This is what we do!
This is why we exist! To make a difference in the lives of those who
suffer in times of crises and to share the compassion and love of
Christ through our service to them.
Determination
to strengthen our resolve to serve others comes at a high financial
cost and we reach out to people like you who want to see this kind of
work continue. You may not be able to put on a backpack and walk with
our search teams, or physically involve yourself in a disaster
deployment, but you can and will have a "life-saving," and
"life-changing" impact through financial support and prayer. Without
your generosity, we could not accomplish the heart-healing ministry of
touching others who suffer during tough events like this.
Thank
you for continuing to pray for God's hand of blessing upon the
financial responsibilities of this great work of the Lord through young
men and women. Through you, we are encouraged and strengthened for the
battle as we see His will unfolded in our daily walk—"For it is God
which worketh in you both to will and to do of His good pleasure"
(Philippians 2:13).
Strengthened through Him,

Colonel John Tanner
Director of IAA Programs
Commander of ALERT
